Fourpenny Steading
Fourpenny Steading
Fourpenny is so called because in the 1800s the small hamlet of Fourpenny consisting of Fourpenny Farm, Fourpenny Cottage and Fourpenny Forest where one of the first registered land sales in Scotland and you guessed it, was sold for the princely sum of 4d or later known as a Grout.
Fourpenny stands on the edge of the Loch Fleet Nature reserve. With uninterrupted stunning views over the loch, this self catering cottage is ideally located to explore Sutherland and the Scottish Highlands. To the north can be seen Golspie, Dunrobin Castle, Brora and Helmsdale, while the view to the East covers the Dornoch Firth, Portmahomack, and Tain. Renouned for its abundace of wild life seals, deer, osprey and other birds of prey as well as scenic walks along the Lochside. All this within walking distance and set against the back drop of Ben Bhraggie mountain, with the statue of the first Duke of Sutherland, known locally as 'The Mannie', who will tell you the weather each day, if he is in full outline; its a lovely day, through to having his cloak on; meaning its misty just now.
Fourpenny is just 2 3/4 miles from the ancient town of Dornoch famous for its golf course, Cathedral and sandy beaches and the famous Grannies Heilan Hame, Embo is just 1 1/2 miles away which has one of the best beaches around this area.
